nuScore is a prototype of "almost" real-time score display on-site as well as over-the-net. The program interfaces
AND co-exist with the MS Excel based scorekeeper software that Canada has been using since 2003.
At competition venues where there are internet access, the system will update a outside host so that everyone can
get unofficial results while the competition running.
In this phase, nuScore will be used to provide score display and interim ranking as each score
become available. The design allows the system to evolve into realtime scoring so judges will enter
scores directly into the computer and results will be posted automatically.
The system designed in such a way that it is fully scalable and configurable to
ensure there is a scoring solution for different sizes of competitions. Therefore, the old way of keeping score via MS Excel is still
left intact as an option.
Following is a brief description of its current functionality:
-
Display Pad - is used on location for Score Display and Ranking. The public is allowed to
use it as well. The page refreshes itself as data is made available for display by the head scorer.
With internet access, this will allow score display in the warmup area where deemed appropriate.
Audiences will also have access to the ranking of the athlete at a point in time without scrambling
to do manual calculation.
-
Rank Report - provides AA ranking and individual athlete detailed scores. The font size
is too small to be projected onto a screen. However, fans and supporters who have access
to the internet can retreive these reports. The scores again is as displayed and therefore just a shadow
of the competition. Official results and ranking will still be distributed via PDFs after the
scores and ranking have been signed off.
